Unmasked is a storytelling installation featuring the voices of community members. Spotlights invite visitors to stand under umbrellas, spaced six feet apart, that tell the stories through small speakers.
Business owners, unemployed people, students, parents, and other community members share their experiences of the past year. Parabolic-shaped umbrellas confine the sound to the space under the umbrella, creating both a socially distant but intimate moment between two strangers.
First installed at ArtCity’s 2020 BEAM exhibition, Unmasked challenges participants to pause, contemplate, and reflect.
